The number of abandoned infants is growing every year especially in poor countries where the foundations for a decent life for them is lacking. Unfortunately in those poor countries gangs of orphans traders spread selling those children or their organs.
At the same time, thousands of families across the world live through the bitterness of deprivation of children and the ability to have a child.
Wedad International Foundation is a strong supporter of the breastfeeding methodology that is laid out by the United Nations and the World Health Organization.
We understand the positive emotional, physical and social components that accompany breastfeeding and the long-term effects it has on an abandoned baby’s life.
Breastfeeding has positive effects not just for the baby, but for the mother as well. Additionally, there are economical cost benefits to breastfeeding
For the baby, breastfeeding
– Provides excellent nutritional benefits to a developing child
– Promotes bonding with the mother and the family
– Protects the baby from lymphoma as well as infectious and chronic diseases
– Contributes to the child’s sensory and cognitive development
– Reduces the risk of heart disease, obesity and death
Finally, we know that breastfeeding protects the baby from the occurrence of stomach and intestinal infections not just while they are breastfeeding, but well into their formative years.
For the mother, breastfeeding:
– Protects the mother from breast cancer
– Lowers the risk of arthritis and lupus
– Decreases urinary tract infections and anemia
– Increases the physical and emotional bond between mother and baby
The economical benefits of breastfeeding include lower feeding costs than formula and since the baby may be healthier due to breastfeeding, medical costs can decrease as well.

Wedad ensures safe and secure temporary homes for abandoned babies that are equipped with surrogate nursing mothers and caregivers.
Each mother has been screened and selected based on a strict set of rules and regulations that ensure the child’s overall safety.
Additionally, each child is accompanied in an apartment where he or she is given their locker, bed, clothes, and other basic living essentials. Each child also has round-the-clock care and supervision from our staff.
While our arrangement changes slightly at each location, the overall goal is to ensure each abandoned baby is adequately looked after during this crucial part of their development.
Meanwhile, we continue to provide all means of support and advice to the family at the time of need.
We are working to develop and provide a variety of targeted awareness programs on issues related to abandoned children, to help increase societal awareness internationally about this important issue, and to clarify/expose the reality of their conditions.
We work to make sure that those issue are being taken care of on the level of societal, economic, humane and political levels and to facilitate ways of integrating those children into society as empowered individuals having all their rights and support as other children’s.
